HOT FLASH
Today I am sooo tired.
I have been experiencing the scourge of middle aged women, nighttime hot flashes. Hot flashes are no picnic during waking hours, but try being awakened by the sensation that you are actually on fire and have some how created an internal sprinkler system all at once.
What's up God?
When I’ve experienced the sleeplessness that comes with garden-variety motherhood in the past, I’ve learned to shift into simply resting deeply, being with my breath and listening for what God wanted to say in the quiet.
No peace
Well, in this new scenario, peace is illusive. One can’t actually “ride it out,” in stillness due the need to get out from under any and all bedding and soaked clothing. Getting up and moving around to freshen up and cool off often brings me fully awake, so that even when I settle back in, sleep has been alluding me.
Know Peace
As I write this, I am realizing the missing piece is that I have been allowing myself to become agitated. Agitated by the hot flashes, the sleeplessness, the movement… It is the agitation that keeps me from peace. It is the agitation that keeps me from listening for what God is saying. (I’ve learned: That is where the peace is.)
REACTION
Being reactionary to situations you cannot control causes bigger problems. Lashing out because you don’t like what someone said, did or didn’t do will always make the problem bigger.
Take your own medicine
So I’ll remember my own medicine now and get quieter, calmer, become curious and still when I wake up next time and listen for what God is telling me. (I'll let you know how it goes!)
